I guess this will just be another roller derby blah blah blah page.
Tonight is scrimmage night for the DC Rollergirls. That means I am already late making dinner-lucky for me I have some frozen Trader Joe’s gnocchi that I can heat real quick.
I live about 35 miles from the DC Armory, so in DC traffic that means between 60-120 minutes in the car—all “against” traffic.
I think the reason I was attracted to Derby was the socks. I have not owned a pair of plain white socks since 2nd grade. I have owned a pair of socks with almost everything and anything on them. This morning, I am wearing crab socks. I own a pair of socks with laundry hanging on the line printed on them.
Examples of ther socks I have worn:
With derby, my sock collection has grown in to a whole new world of knee socks. My sock collection has become, truthfully, unmanageable. Spring is still weeks away, but I wanted to wear shorter socks today. Not knee socks.
NOT KNEE SOCKS!!!!
Tonight! I plan on stopping by the DCRG All Stars Happy Hour at Rocket Bar before heading out to see the late show at the 930 club—Wanda Jackson.
Tomorrow! Sleeping in (ditching practice) then driving down to Richmond to watch some derby. I do enjoy watching derby.
Sunday! The DCRG All Stars are having a morning practice—I will be there to observe and perform other coaching duties.
All I have to do today is drive down to Richmond, buy a ticket, watch derby, then drive home.
It seems pretty likely that will be ALL I do today.
I am feeling so lazy today…and The Mighty Wind is on TV.
This is someone’s post about how many referees and NSOs are needed to play WFTDA Roller Derby.
I have some real concerns about how the game would change with some of the writers proposed changes.
Still—very interesting.
Doesn’t everyone eat dinner at 4:30 in the afternoon?
Scrimmage night—means eating before the Seniors at Leisure World.
I am thankful for Wegman’s $6 Meals—cheap and quick and tasty. Maybe not the healthiest—but I have green things and eggplant on my plate.
DERBY TIME!
I have been to ECE a couple times—I have never made it on challenge bouts before. I just couldn’t pay enough attention, early enough to make it on. The last ECE I went to, I did get to do the Black & White scrimmage which was pretty fun.
This year, I have made it my mission to try to be on at least a couple challenge bouts this year. Because of the lottery system it seems like everyone is hedging their bets and creating a bajillion teams!
Teams I am on (So far):
*Teams I created/captaining
OK, so that seems like too many. But, as the Coach of the DC Rollergirls All Stars—there are going to be some bouts I will miss—since I will be coaching their bouts. I really would like to play just one or two bouts at ECE this year.
I am also sad because there does not seem to be a gay vs. straight challenge bout this year. I would love to get one going, but is that too many for me to be “running”? I have the best name ever for this bout—ready for it?
MUFF DIVERS VS. SNORKELERS
I just need someone to get this one going!!!
My weekend plans are peppered with Derby and Non(!) Derby fun.
Tonight I am having a couple pre-derby and post-derby friends come over for dinner—wii playing—cadbury egg making—tutu creating—crochet helping kind of night! I am very excited about this.
Tomorrow morning I get to leave my house before 7am to make it so EARLY ASS practice which I get to run! I am doing a greatest hits kind of practice focusing on some of my favorite drills/ideas to work on.
Then, I’ll get home around 1130 and shower, etc. before heading out for my brother’s fiancee’s Bridal Shower. Then back home for a quick change and out the door back towards DC to join fellow leaguemates and friends to watch the DC All Stars take on Minnesota.
I am terribly depressed about not getting to travel with the All Stars to Minnesota—but I know Ripper and the Captains can take care of themselves. I was really looking forward to getting to watch/Coach the team playing in front of the millions of fans that watch Derby in Minnesota.
Sunday—well, I actually get to sleep in until I wake up!
That’s my weekend.
Heading out the door in a few minutes…
Here we are again—up before 630am—heading out for some ChHerry Blossom Bombshell team time.
Happy Saturday!
Another day, another derby practice.
That means eating early—like an old lady trying to get the Senior Special.
Tonight will be tofu with yakisoba noodles and some veggies for good measure.
I have another Naked Coconut Water for practice tonight—I am starting to enjoy the raw potato flavor.

Photos from last weekend’s home bouts. I coached the DCRG All-Stars against Maine. Next weekend we are on the road to play Long Island, Suburbia and Connecticut.
I sat with my home team-Cherry Blossom Bombshells-during the second bout. Everyone was wearing blue to support our All-Stars—but me, I coach in red. We were posing with the group from Walter Reed Military Hospital during a time out.
My end of the season dress does not meet the 1930s theme of our end of the season party.
Not really sure what to do…

WTF…some how this is the fault of one...
Harvey Milk Day.
